You Gotta Go There to Come Back

We have the Stereophonics to thank for the title of this post. They have two albums with the cut “Maybe Tomorrow”. ‘Maybe Tomorrow’ is one and ‘You Gotta Go There to Come Back’ is the other.
The Princess and I were on iTunes last night acquiring some new music and when I saw the words “you gotta go there to come back” they literally struck a chord for me. So many times in life we have to let ourselves “go there” to find our way home, what ever home may mean to us.
Maybe Tomorrow’s lyrics are simple, yet thought provoking and haunting… At any given time each of us may be able to relate to the sadness, but optimism they contain.
Maybe Tomorrow
I’ve been down
And I’m wondering why
These little black clouds
Keep walking around
With me
With me
It wastes time
And I’d rather be high
Think I’ll walk me outside
And buy a rainbow smile
But be free
They’re all free
So maybe tomorrow
I’ll find my way home
So maybe tomorrow
I’ll find my way home
I look around at a beautiful life
Been the upperside of down
Been the inside of out
But we breathe
We breathe
I wanna breeze and an open mind
I wanna swim in the ocean
Wanna take my time for me
It’s all free
So maybe tomorrow
I’ll find my way home
So maybe tomorrow
I’ll find my way home
So maybe tomorrow
I’ll find my way home
So maybe tomorrow
I’ll find my way home
So maybe tomorrow
I’ll find my way home
So maybe tomorrow
I’ll find my way home
I believe “home” describes the place of peace within each of us. The place of contentment and balance which gives us the strength to meet life with equanimity and joy.
We really do have to find the courage to go “there” and embrace the physical or emotional pain which life may throw at us, in order to come back from the darkness. When we find the courage to meet the pain head on, we begin to heal.
