Tropical Storm Noel

I suspect by now you’ve gathered I rather enjoy storms. I do, normally. Tropical Storm Noel, however, is reminding me a bit too much of the night Hurricane Juan made landfall near our house in 2003.
A few hours ago the top blew off our chimney. I was fairly philosophical about this…a little while ago we noticed rain being forced through the wood of an exterior door. We’ve covered this up with plastic. It’s a good thing we are constantly in renovation mode, we’ve got all sorts of interesting accessories in this house.
A few minutes ago I was emailing a friend and the ceiling next to the computer started leaking. What’s really irritating about this is, it’s on the first floor! There must be rain being forced through the wall somewhere. The joys of mature houses!
I guess the upside to all of this is mature houses have withstood many storms in their lives. I like this thought, it’s rather comforting, reminds me of resilience. I’m smiling now, perhaps I can even learn to like Noel.
This afternoon I did. I was out at the entrance to Halifax Harbor and the waves were amazing! The swells were about 10 meters and the spray was like ice pellets hitting my face. The wind was so strong it would make me lose my balance, but the experience was exhilarating!
