Searching for some light...

Today is a snow day, for which I am extremely appreciative. A friend asked me what I do on snow days and I replied “take care of me”. Given my constant fatigue this seems an actually fairly positive use of a surprise free day.

I needed some perspective on life today. It turned out to be an emotionally challenging day. O.k., sad day. I’m all about using baby steps to get back to “normal”, so I went looking for some quotes to encourage me. Here are some I liked and thought were worth sharing.

“The true test of character is not how much we know how to do, but how we behave when we don’t know what to do.” John Holt

“Freedom is never letting your fears stop you from following your heart.” Susie Switzer

“Its the little things that matter, that add up in the end, with the priceless thrilling magic found only in a friend.” Elizabeth Dunphy

“There is no one giant step that does it. It’s a lot of little steps.” Peter A. Cohen

“Assumptions allow the best in life to pass you by.” John Sales

“You can close your eyes to reality, but not to memories.” Ralph Marston

The following quotes I discovered on Liz Fulkerson’s blog “Living my Life with Cancer…”

Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle. Unknown

If you are never scared or embarrassed or hurt, it means you never take any chances.

Ask yourself: “What have I missed out on simply because I was too afraid of what others would think?”

Take risks: if you win, you will be happy; if you lose, you will be wiser.

And finally, probably the words we should all learn to live by…those of The Serenity Prayer:

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference. —Reinhold Niebuhr
