October is almost over...

I cannot believe how hectic life has been! School has been great, but incredibly busy. This is the norm for this time of year, with IPPs (I think they are called IEPs in the U.S.) due and needing to be completed sooner than soon. So, I’ve been feeling much like a hamster on a little wheel!
Today I decided to forget being a responsible adult and be in touch with my inner child. I went on a mission to complete my Hallowe’en costume. I love dressing up!
I used to create the type of costumes which caused my mother to raise her eyebrows, but I had fun! One of my favorites was the year I went to Halifax’s Mardi Gras as a “dream merchant”. You’ll have to decide how this was represented. Another year I recycled a wedding dress and went as the Bride of Frankenstein. This one was so effective I recycled the idea for a couple of years.
On the few years when I didn’t go out for Hallowe’en I used to do my friends’ make up. I must have been good, because I got lots of requests and thank you presents. Once the Princess came along I began to focus on her costumes and make up. She was a willing victim and, except for the year when she didn’t appreciate her cat make up, we’ve had lots of fun.
I used to love taking the Princess and the Pants girls trick or treating. As they became older I (and whatever other parent wanted to come along) trailed several houses behind. I need to find older, small children to trick or treat with now, the Princess is old enough to venture out with her friends. Even if this means I’ll worry about her while she’s out.
Anyway, back to my current Hallowe’en costume. I decided last year to be a mad surgeon. It’s great for school! Really comfortable and lots of room for being gruesome. O.R. scrubs, gloves, a severed head and a skull, which when squeezed, the eyes bulge with “blood” and flies. The kids loved it, especially the icky skull. The severed head is this year’s addition to the look.
Happy Hallowe’en!
