My daughter

The Princess often makes me speechless with wonder, in a very good way. She has so much warmth and empathy; compassion and wisdom and is still so young. I try to remember myself at 15 and am certain I was light years behind her in emotional development.
On Friday evening I had my annual mammogram. The technician observed this was my ninth. She also observed it will be almost 10 years since my diagnosis of cancer. I liked both.
So, anyway…the Princess had decided she was going to accompany me on this appointment. I definitely didn’t mind. It normalizes taking care of yourself. When we arrived she stood next to me while I registered. The receptionist went through all the routine stuff, like contact information and then arrived at doctors.
She asked which of the two physicians I would like as the primary contact, the g.p. or the gynecologist. I said I didn’t have a preference and asked why it mattered. She replied “Well, if there are any concerns/problems who would you want as your lead doctor?” The Princess’ arm went around me and stayed around me. She remembers the chemo and radiation year and she remembers my call back after a mammogram a few years ago.
Cut to later the same evening. I thanked her for coming with me and our subsequent shoe shopping adventure. (Highly successful, but material for another time). She replied “I just wanted to be there for you. I love you.” How blessed am I? Rhetorical question. Very blessed.
