In Praise of Snow Days

The title says it all, I’ll just stop now and toddle off and have my coffee in front of the fire. I love snow days! This can never be repeated too frequently in my opinion.
When I went to bed last night Environment Canada had a winter storm warning posted, for Nova Scotia, on their web site. I refused to let my hopes rise in anticipation of a peaceful day doing nothing, since my hopes have been cruelly dashed under similar circumstances in the past. The school board within which I work is known for rarely closing schools due to bad weather.
I may not have intended to be optimistic, but I woke up several times during the night and checked the scene from my bedroom window. It was snowy, icy and boded well. I am a realist, however, and told myself to go back to sleep and prepare for work.
I found myself in the middle of a dream where a neighbor and I were looking out my window at the snow covered road. We were excited to see the “school closure person” sliding around on the road trying to find traction. Our only worry was this individual would be stuck on the icy hill and unable to communicate schools were closed for the day.
So much for not getting my hopes up! I suspect this is a prime example of the subconscious mind taking control.
Mother Nature came through for me though…I’m home. The peaceful day stretches before me full of possibilities. I’m reading in front of the fire, my favorite candle is lit, I’m writing to you and I’m looking forward to a 4 day week! Unfortunately, the snow has changed to rain…
