Chloe speaks on away time

I have a friend who has been encouraging Chloe (our feline companion) to write and, recently, Chloe decided to put paw to keyboard. The following is Chloe’s account of a recent experience in her life as a pampered and well loved cat.

My family went on vacation recently and they left me at home. My family are humans, they don’t enjoy playing with mice, they like to protect birds and tend to want to sleep just when I want to play, but I love them. I missed them when they went away. They didn’t mention to me they were leaving or where they were going. They just left! I have to tell you this hurt!

I should also mention I had a lovely time while they were gone. Poppy next door catered to my every need and to my every whim. I think my family have a great deal to learn from this dear man. He never woke me up in the morning, he let me luxuriate in a peaceful waking up process. He’d come back two or three times until I was ready to hop off Gemini’s bed. I should mention she has control issues. She won’t let me sleep on her pillow or anywhere near her pillow. I don’t know about some of her issues.

Then Poppy would sit with me while I had breakfast. We would chat and hang out. No one has breakfast with me in my family. He didn’t feed me any of the nasty crunchy food Gemini says is good for my teeth and he gave me more cat treats than she does. In fact, he added real chicken to my soft food on a couple of occasions, Gemini only does this after special human dinners.

I like to sit on high railings out of the way of the cat neighbors and raccoons. The jump to reach ground level can be quite hard on my paws. This thoughtful man would lift me down from my high perches rather than making me jump six or more feet. Do you know how these jumps hurt my paws?

The thing is, I wouldn’t want Gemini etc. to know how much fun I had with Poppy for a couple of reasons. You know how insecure humans can be, they might think I didn’t love them as much as I do and/or they might take more vacations. I like having them around. Odd as they are, they are my humans.
