Armchairs, Sofas and Mood Lighting

I suspect I’ve been watching a bit too much of the Home and Garden channel lately. I’m certain you will agree when you read this post…but I’m thinking about how we decorate our work spaces.
We tend to focus on making our homes comfortable and relaxing. Well, at least I know I do. I am all about comfy! I like to curl up in our leather armchair and read. In the winter I add a snuggly throw to keep me warm. I’m always cold!
We utilize mood lighting, art, mirrors, window coverings to individualize our personal spaces. We make the space distinct.
Many of us spend 8 or more hours of our work day in our office space. We need to make this space a home away from home. There’s a lot to be said for an ergonomic desk chair when we’re writing or working on the computer. Much easier on the back.
Lighting is another priority, not the nasty florescent lighting most of us are afflicted with in our work space. I like to take a small and attractive lamp into my space at school. It tends to create an ambiance in my room and as an extra benefit makes the room more restful. With my students, restful is good.
An armchair, or better yet, a sofa, or, even better, an arm chair and a sofa offer a spot to relax and review files in comfort. Depends on how much space we have though, we don’t want to over crowd the space. The extra seating is great for meetings too, unless, of course you want the participants out of there lickity split!
I shouldn’t admit this, but there has been many a lunch hour when I’ve dreamed of having a sofa in my office for a cat nap. (We have a sofa in our staff room and there’s usually someone napping their way through lunch!)
I would like to remind all of you of the merits of mirrors. I know, I know, my vanity is showing. It’s just I like to know I am looking my best. But seriously, I have mirrors in almost every room in my home, they reflect light, can make the space seem larger/more open and people, like me, can check their hair and lip gloss no prob.
Think of the enjoyable effect these minor additions could have on our work days. I am.
